About Jess

I’m originally from Calgary, Alberta, and I have deep connections both here and in BC. When I was called to the BC bar 20 years ago, I came to the practice of law driven to understand how people work together, govern together, and do business together - and eager to work toward a fairer, more accessible legal system. In my first 8 years of practice, I helped develop a province-wide program extending a legal lifeline to many thousands of marginalized clients, and I successfully litigated many cases on issues of human rights, procedural fairness, and the proper application of public law.

In 2012 I decided to focus my practice on workplace issues and joined a respected Vancouver firm advising unions. I also undertook extensive ADR training, joined the MediateBC roster, and incorporated civil mediation into my practice.

In 2019, I returned to Calgary where I expanded my practice to include Albertan clients, employer-side work, and investigations. Then in mid-2024, I made the leap to open my own firm specializing exclusively in workplace investigations and dispute resolution. I particularly enjoy working in educational settings and in values-driven unionized public sector workplaces. I offer my clients a sophisticated suite of services that’s uniquely informed by my dispute resolution skill set and by my knowledge of how unions, employers and individuals experience conflict.

I’ve always tried to “pay it forward” by providing pro bono legal services, including through Access Pro Bono, the Amici Curiae Friends of Court, and the PBSC Human Rights Project. Since 2021, I have also been privileged to serve with the Board of Directors of CIWA, a major non-profit that offers a wide range of innovative job training, language and childcare programs for immigrant women across Canada.

When I’m not helping my clients to build safer and healthier workplaces, I can be found exploring the rivers and mountains of Alberta, playing music, and making crafts and inventions with my hilariously creative daughter.
